Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health is structural and administrative part of Medical Academy of Latvia (AML) which is the only educational institution providing higher medical education in Latvia. Therefor all administrative matters of IOEH are closely related with the administrative departments and officials of AML. However credentials of the IOEH Director allows the IOEH to be quite independent and self administrated as far as this doesn't conflict with the general interests of AML.
IOEH is administrated by it's Director - Professor Maija Eglite. All official correspondence and rights for a final judgement and approval of any matter is her responsibility. Administration of the structures of IOEH is done by the corresponding persons in charge of each structure. You can find their names and contact addresses simply by following the links from sections describing each structural unit. Office work at IOEH is done by its administrative staff.
Financially IOEH is very much dependent from AML as a structural part of it. Certain budget is allocated to IOEH from the overall budget of AML in order to insure training of students (both clinical and pre - clinical) and physicians as well as some research and scientific work. Due to the changing economical circumstances in our country governmentally funded educational institutions like AML is not receiving sufficient funding and it is certain that these funds can not fully cover the expanding functions and targets set by the IOEH.
This is the reason why during last years IOEH has been extensively working in order to promote funding other than from AML (state) budget. Several approaches has been used in order to rise funds for researh, information and promotion of occupational and environmental health in Latvia. Different projects on research, education and information as well as direct support from empoyers should be mentioned as most typical. Expert services and hygienic measurements also counts for a significant income to the IOEH.
